DIVA Music: Morgan

“Drama,” one of the more contemplative tracks on ‘Train of Thought,’ tells a story that a lot people are familiar with, betrayal.  As Morgan spits the lines, the message will more than likely send the listener on a mental ride, taking them back to a similar time in their life.

For the DIVAS: Listen 2 The Lyrics

LISTEN 2 THE LYRICS BATTLES TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN HIP-HOP LYRICS AND EDUCATION IN PEPSI’S “REFRESH EVERYTHING” CHALLENGE

Baltimore based non-profit strives to create critical thinking music education after-school programs in 11 urban cities

On March 1st, Listen to the Lyrics entered into the challenge of a lifetime by staking its claim in Pepsi’s “Refresh Everything” Challenge, which will award more than $20 million in 2010 to move communities forward. The Baltimore based campaign, created in partnership with the United Sisters Mentoring Program, who has also been featured on Fox News Networks for its dedication to the community is competing for $250,000 to fund ways to improve the community, and ultimately the World around them.

L2tL proposes to use Hip-Hop as a vehicle for education by hosting 55 after-school listening sessions in 11 urban cities. This unique and creative learning approach includes a DJ, dance session and listening event to analyze the lyrics of popular songs on the radio as well as music from local artists, and discuss how the lyrics can unconsciously affect decision-making and problem solving in everyday life. Participating middle and high schools will then be awarded a $2,500 grant to continue an ongoing L2tL after-school program at their school.

Beginning and ending its National campaign in Baltimore, the tour will make stops in Atlanta, Birmingham, Jacksonville, Dallas, Memphis, St. Louis, Chicago, Detroit, NYC, and DC. L2tL is currently seeking schools, community members, artists and students to help support and encourage everyone to vote daily at www.refresheverything.com/listen2thelyricsthrough March 31st.

My two cents: DIVAS, it’s really easy to support this project.  Click the above link and click the vote button.

Your chance to make a difference!  Step up to the plate!

Underground DIVA of the Week: Eternia

Listening to Eternia you feel the essence of what some may refer to as old school hip hop.  Hip hop music characterized by lyrics that tell stories in a compelling way.  reminding you that classic hip hop is remembered way after the song is a hit.  Five years later, ten years later, you still find yourself quoting song lyrics.  People seem to think that era of hip hop is of the past, but Eternia is that sense of nostalgia to remind you why you fell in love with hip hop.  She gives you the hope that there is still room for this form of hip hop and not all is lost on the current mainstream.  Seek her out and you will find you are not alone.  Eternia has developed a loyal following that keeps her busy working on new music and touring.  To date she has released three albums, “Where I Been – The Collection”, “It’s Called Life”, and “Where I’m At – The Setup”.  She has toured Canada, the United States, Mexico, Australia, and Europe.  She’s shared the stage with some of hip hop’s most elite and revered including KRS One, Common, MC Lyte, Bahamadia, and Roxanne Shante.  For many people, she’s their favorite rapper so it’s only fitting that she launched a t-shirt design “My Favorite Rapper Wears A Skirt”.  In a time when emcees are all riding in the same lane, male or female, Eternia stands out.  She brings a purpose to hip hop other than making money and now she has landed a record deal.  Be inspired by her journey because it is paved with hard work, truth, and dedication.  Eternia, we salute you.
