Is There Support for Hip Hop Divas?

Are Hip Hop Divas not at the forefront of hip hop music due to lack of support?  Are record labels unwilling to sign new female rappers because they fear they won’t sell records, pick up endorsements, or sell out shows?  Do we as a whole feel like it’s a waste of money to invest in Hip Hop Divas?

This will focus primarily on female rappers because I personally feel we have no problem suppoting females in any other role of hip hop culture.  If a Diva wants to be a video model she will get jobs because they are out there for her to get.  If she wants to be a singer and actually has talent people will believe in her.  If she wants to design clothes, shoes, or jewelry or even open a boutique that sell these items individuals will buy her product.  So, why is there a lack of support when she wants to rap?  Is it because we see those roles as ones that women natually fulfill?  Is it because we view rap as a man’s world and don’t really think females belong?  Why is that?  Women play football, baketball, softball, soccer, volleyball, and all other sports and we support them.  They run companies, hold public office, and do anything else under the sun and we support them.  Why is it so different when it comes to female MCs?

Divas we can’t look to men to lead the way, we’ve got to take charge.  The men are wealthy and successful because we support them.  Keep in mind, I’m not saying don’t support them becasue we love what they do.  I’m just saying show the same love to the Divas.  If you feeling Diva music, buy it.  Go to her shows, request her music on the radio, be her friend on myspace, hit up her videos on youtube.  I’m sure you can find at least one femcee you can support.  Think about all the mediocre male rappers who get your support.  It seems like the female rappers have to be the best of the best to get you to listen to them.  People are saying female rappers need to come harder. How many male rappers come harder?  Not so many.  Not trying to hate on  anyone right now.  My message is: Treat the women the same way you treat the men.  If we did this there would be far more women out there getting it.  Show the music business that there is a demand for the Diva rappers by supporting them.

Here’s a piece of my mind.  Let me hear your two cents.
