Division 1 artist Cherlise has released her mixtape Groundzero. You can download it here.
Groundzero begins with Cherlise speaking on what it means to be at ground zero. There are five more instances in which she does this throughout the project as sort of a guide to the listener on where she’s headed with the next songs and how they all tie into being at ground zero. The first song on the mixtape, “Stranger” sets the tone for the project and showcases upfront Cherlise’s vocal abilities and strengths. It has a vulnerable yet ultra sexy groove to it which is reminiscent of feelings you may get when listening to some Janet Jackson album cuts.

Three hip hop artists are featured on the album – Fat Joe, Brianna, and Lil Wayne. R&B artists oftentimes select the hottest rapper at the time to feature hoping to capture their audience as well. However, on Groundzero all of the features makes sense and complement Cherlise’s vibe. Fat Joe sets up “I’m So Ready” for Cherlise to come in so sweet behind his masculinity.

Brianna, a fellow up and coming Florida artist carries out Cherlise’s “Hollyhood” theme and Lil Wayne not only stays on subject matter with his flow but throws a compliment to Cherlise’s talent as well.

“Love U Right” Ft. Lil Wayne
“Gone” is reminiscent of Mary J. Blige’s “Real Love” in its production and she even sings “how could this be real love when it feels so bad.”
“Gone”
On “I Got That” she flows which isn’t such a far stretch for her since she is a songwriter. This song is a good one for those girls who wanna talk ish but not as harcore as a female emcee would.

Stand Out Songs:
-”Hollyhood” Ft. Brianna – This song is a good R&B/Hip Hop feel to it. The beat comes in hard, it’s as if a marching band is playing in the background. I love the theme of being “classy and sassy and kinda hood.”
-”All Night Love” Ft. Rico Love – The sexiness of her voice makes this one that you want playing in the background when you plan on making love all night long.
-”Fool” – I find this song to be relatable to everyone because everybody plays the fool at least once. She sings with such strong emotion that you can feel it.
