Jade Alston released personal journal entries via Single On A Saturday Night the mixtape. You can download it here.
Jade Alston was dumped by her boyfriend, overdosed on “Sex And The City” episodes, and that is how Single On A Saturday Night came about. She is describing the project as her personal journal entries and when you listen to the lyrics you will get that feeling. For any girl that has ever been dumped Single On A Saturday Night goes through all the different emotions you feel. Beginning with the intro/title track, “Single On A Saturday Night”, this song is the perfect soundtrack to getting ready to go out and party with your girlfriends after being freshly dumped. You know that you are fly, you got your girls with you, and you talk that ish like you know it. This song has a soulful undertone to it musically with a hip hop feel lyrically. After a break up, whether you like it or not you find yourself missing the person you spent time building a relationship with and “Missing You Lately” conveys that vulnerability. When thinking about what went wrong you may think about all of your exes and wonder why you keep picking the wrong guy. “Searching” takes you through that and how you haven’t completely given up on love and hope to find the right guy for you. When you listen to this project you will feel all the feelings you feel after a break up from feeling like you’ll never love again to not being able to sleep because you miss him so much to knowing you are the ish. Jade Alston is a R&B artist but her project is not just ballads. It has its slow cuts but then there are those that have a bounce to it. However, the entire project has a depth to it stemming from her soulfully sultry voice and lyrical content.
Stand Out Songs
“Single On A Saturday Night (Intro)” – Has soul coupled with a hip hop feel that I can picture any chick jamming and singing to.
“Bill Gates Shemixx” – This is a classic hip hop/R&B song where she could very well be flowing to but she’s singing. It has the themes that we like to jam in the club – money, winning, and getting on your level.
